BOULDER DASH 40th Anniversary from Munich-based publisher BBG Entertainment won the coveted award in the Remake/Remaster category at the prestigious UK Gaming Network awards ceremony—and this is being celebrated with a major content update!
Munich, Germany – February 25, 2026 – At the turn of the year, the cult title was named the winner in the Remake/Remaster category by the UK Gaming Network – BBG Entertainment is taking this special recognition for the successful combination of retro charm and modern technology as an opportunity to present a greatly expanded version of Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary.
One of the highlights is that fans of the original ZX Spectrum and Apple II versions can now play the entire game with the original graphics and sound of the classic versions. This adds two more cult computers to the existing C64 and Atari versions, comprehensively representing the 8-bit home computer origins of the long-running game series and offering anyone interested a unique journey back in time that few other games can match.
The updated version, now released for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Mac, brings comprehensive new content and improvements:
• Three new Modern Worlds, including the legendary fan-generated Firefox Levels
• A new Classic World with levels from the Boulder Dash Construction Set
• Original look from the ZX Spectrum and Apple II now selectable
• A total of 320 playable caves that will delight both nostalgic players and new fans
There are also further platform optimizations and technical improvements:
• Full Steam Deck support (officially verified by Steam, including on-screen keyboard)
• Fixed performance issues on Nintendo Switch
• Numerous UI, import, score, and workshop improvements
• Enhanced sounds (including new effects for the Magic Wall in Classic Worlds)
• Additional languages (Japanese and Russian)
