Munich, Germany – December 11, 2024 – BBG Entertainment today released the reboot of the Intellivision classic ASTROSMASH® for PlayStation 4 and 5 (RRP: 19.99 EUR). SHARK! SHARK!® will follow at the turn of the year. Both titles have already been released for Steam (Windows/Mac/Unix), Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Windows and Mac.
As a special feature, BBG Entertainment has a surprise in store for all Intellivision fans: the top-class reboots also contain the original versions from the 80s: The million-seller Astrosmash, which was released in 1981 and is one of the five best-selling Intellivision games of all time, can be played on flatscreens for the first time in crystal-clear visuals. The original can be selected directly from the main menu. The same applies to the family fun Shark! Shark! which first conquered the global Intellivision charts in 1982.
ASTROSMASH was originally designed by John Sohl and launched on the market in 1981 for the original Intellivision console. In the space game, players have to destroy incoming meteors, bombs and other targets with a laser cannon. The original game quickly became one of the most popular Intellivision games – it sold more than a million copies and made it into the top 5 best-selling Intellivision games of the time. This is thanks in large part to the addictive gameplay: like most arcade games, ASTROSMASH gets faster and more difficult at higher levels, but unlike most arcade games, the game gets easier again when you start losing lives. So the game is never too easy or too hard, which makes it extremely addictive and allows even beginners to play a single game for over an hour.
The original version of SHARK! SHARK! was released in 1982 for the Intellivision console. The game was developed by Don Daglow and Ji-Wen Tsao, the world’s first female game programmer. The player takes on the role of an ambitious little fish surrounded by dangerous underwater creatures. These are nasty, sneaky and loud-mouthed water devils, but also really clever sharks that love to eat fish. SHARK! SHARK! was selected by the National Game Preservation Board as one of the best video games for permanent inclusion in the National Game Registry of the United States Library of Congress.
